Greetings-

I recently picked up this unknown USAF patch and I'd like your help identifying it. The design has elements from the old AF Systems Command with an intel flavor. I was thinking along the lines of something to do with the Foreign Technology Division. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

With the Phantom imagery, I'd think it might have something to do with the F-4. Interesting design elements there. SYSCOM, Phantom and the Soviet star... interesting....

Sorry, I dont' have a picture I can put up of the reverse. The patch design is printed with a black, merrowed edge. The reverse is a white fabric, almost like gauze. Thanks again.

The Phantom was also used quite a bit by spooky USAF Intelligence units ... and that's as much as I am allowed to tell you about that.

I think something along the lines of the Foreign Technology Division is probably a very logical guess.... and if true, it's probably very unlikely that we will be able to confirm it.

This looks like a very economically made patch.. I am wondering if this was made for a specific project rather than a unit.

If you would like to know what they do check this out:

Unfortunately, most of the references on the internet are speculation that the Foreign Technology Division's primary mission is to reverse engineer parts found from crashed alien space ships!

It almost looks as if the patch is silkscreened.I was just thinking, was'nt there a guy who wrote a book on all the covert USAF Projects not too long back?

I think I saw his book for sale along with repros of all the project patches on eBay.Could this be one of them?

The book mentioned is "I could tell you, but then you would have to be destroyed by me"

This may be an intel patch from AF Systems command. The arrow in the background is taken directly for the Systems Command patch. And, already pointed out, the spook has been adopted by the intel community. One other possibility; it could be an F-4 aggressor patch for the test pilot school. Either of these could be true.

here is a guess

I think this patch could belong to the 6513th Test Squadron out of the AF Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB. I believe they flew MIGs and other aircraft in an aggressor role.

Forgot to mention, many of these screened patches were made for hats worn by USAF personnel during the 80s.
