It's been a while since I updated some acquisitions to the collection. For those not familiar,

search this women's forum for previous postings by my user name. I have quite an extensive

collection of women's military (ANC, NNC, SPARS, WAVES, USMC/WR, WAC, PHN), and patriotic

service organizations (WADCA, WATCC, ARC, WOW, MWC, CAP, etc.)

This first item added is a rare ANC blue overcoat:

This is the ANC issued overcoat that was received in conjunction

with the blue service uniform through Sept. 1942 when the new service

uniform was adopted in OD 7. Although procurement ended in late '42,

the blue service uniform was allowed to be worn as a dress uniform

through the war's end.

This overcoat is complete in that it still retains the removable

liner, as well as the belt. In all the years I've looked on Ebay,

I have never seen one listed. The only photo I've ever seen of one

was on Katy's web site ...

http://www.blitzkriegbaby.de/homepage.htm

At home page chose 'ANC'

next chose 'III. Uniforms'

next chose '- Cold-Weather Clothing' (optionally chose '- Service and Dress Uniform')

It's the first item on the Cold-Weather Clothing Page.

This is a extremely rare artifact; I suspect that this is because after

the war, many had civilian buttons sewn on them and were used as regular

winter clothing until worn out. This particular one was hung-up in

mint condition and never used again.

This is my third enlisted coast guard SPARS uniform. (I also have an

officer's; search this forum category for SPARS and you'll see the

previous postings.)

This is my first completely identifiable uniform. The hat, blouse,

and skirt all bear the owner's complete name, as well as the correct

coast guard procurement labels; the collars have the correct sewn

grommets. The only part of this uniform that is missing is her rank

insignia with specialty mark and chevrons.

The SPARS, like the WAVES, used ratings badges that were smaller than

those of the enlisted males in the US navy. I have correct type extra

badges; however, I don't know what rank or rating she achieved by the

end of her service. Fortunately her name, first last and middle are

so unique that in theory she should be easily research-able; yet, the

only thing I was able to find on the I-Net was her obituary. Counting

backwards from her age at the year of her death to the start of SPARS

enlistment, her age would be between 20 and 21 at the time of her

enlistment.

For reasons previously discussed on this form by other collectors, I am

loathe to attempt to contact surviving children to inquire additional

information, such as where she was trained and stationed. This is also

why I haven't typed her name, so as to prevent a google search from

turning up information should one of her grand-kids get inquisitive.

SPARS uniforms are just too rare to part with for any reason - least

of all family regret.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I know the pictures suck. I need to invest a few bucks in

bright lighting for photography and a tripod for the camera.

This is a woman's police auxiliary civil defense uniform in

summer cotton. The blouse is nearly identical to the WADCA

summer uniforms. I suspect both organizations were purchasing

from the same supplier. Although the skirt came with the

uniform, I suspect that it is a forced match, as it has a

tighter weave and slightly differing shade from the blouse.

END POST STRING.
