VMI88 Posted August 28, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2007 Can anyone help me identify this plaque? I found it in an antique store in Mechanicsville, Virginia. I believe Carrier Division 6 is headquartered in Norfolk. It appears to be cast aluminum with painted details. Where would such an item be used? Do the two stars signify an admiral? Any idea of the age? I primarily collect Army items, so any help from someone knowledgeable about Navy stuff would be appreciated! Bill

disneydave Posted August 28, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2007 I belive the two stars would signify rear Admiral Upper Half. One star would signify rear Admiral Lower Half.
Bob Hudson Posted August 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 28, 2007 The Navy loves plaques: when a senior officer retires they will often receive several, each in different styles, from different departments or divisions under their command. Those, however, will normally have the officer's name on them and are usually wood or plaster. This one, I suspect may have been attached to a door, perhaps for the Admiral's office or quarters on his flagship carrier.
