Thanks for reviving this thread. I'd forgotten what a superb collection it is! I assume that other aviation manufacturers such as North American, Boeing and Republic etc., would have produced their own similar ranges of insignia too?

Thank you Ian. I appreciate your support. You're absolutely right about the myriad of aviation factory patches, wings and insignia that were produced during WWII. These neat tid-bits can certainly enhance a military collection as well. Are there any other Consolidated Vultee or Ford Aviation collectibles out there? Please feel free to post them here.

Russ, I consider myself fortunate to have the few manufacturer's patches that I do. They came from an estate of a former commercial pilot who'd collected a range of aviation memoribilia. To build such a collection as you have done, one really needs to be US-based!!

Ian

Nice collection Russ, one day in the semi-near future I will have to share some of the tid bits I have collected from Plant #4 here in Fort Worth.

Cheers, Dave

It's been a few years since I found anything worthy of adding to this Consolidated Vultee thread. Here's three patch variations I recently picked up which might be of interest.

The first is a two-inch company patch which may have been worn on an overseas cap? Or maybe the smaller patch was better suited for wear on the sleeve by women in the plant? Any Ideas?

Here's the two inch variation compared to the three inch version:

Here's a 4.75 inch wide winged Vultee patch which I assume was worn on the chest, above the left shirt pocket?

Wow Chris, that Convair rudder pedal, with raised logo, makes for an outstanding company relic!

RUSS, great stuff. But you can't talk about CONVAIR unless you mention Consolidated Airways Corporation, commonly called CONSAIRWAY. A short history of the corporation follows. CONSAIRWAY operated the major air transport routes in the Pacific under contract to ATC, AAF. Will be posting some of thier insignia and information in subsequent posts. First posting is CONSAIRWAY's flight jacket insignia. This may be a patch produced for a CONSAIRWAY reunion, don't believe it is WW2 vintage.

23 APR 1942: Established at Lindberg Field, San Diego, California, as a subsidiary of Consolidated Aircraft Corporation

under contract to Air Transport Command (AAF)

17 MAR 1943: CONSAIRWAY’s parent company, Consolidated Aircraft, merged with Vultee Aircraft to become Consolidated-

Vultee Aircraft Corporation, commonly known as CONVAIR

15 DEC 1943: CONSAIRWAY Headquarters moved to Fairfield-Suisun AAB, Fairfield, California

01 JAN 1946: CONSAIRWAY contract with Air Transport Command terminated

I know I'm very late to the party on this thread but was doing some research on the Forum and discovered this post.  Thought I'd revive the thread by showing an actual wartime use of the above mentioned patch.  The jacket is a private purchase A-2 type.
