Nice one Lawdog.

Isn't interesting how he wears a white Cross on the helmet, White medical tape we imagine. Seen by itself in a collection, one's first instinct would be it was Medical Corps related or maybe Chaplain related

My dad told me it was medical tape.

What is the one in the old Tin Hat? Philippines

Here's an official Army Brief from the Armored School Fort Knox Kentucky of 7 March 1948 on the 4th Cav Grp in WWII from D-Day to Saint Lo, McCauley is mentioned on page 10.

And on the Battle of Bogheim, say Troop C commander wounded, did he DOW?

He indeed Died of Wounds. But curiously says 2 December 1944, a bit before Bogheim.

This picture was in the Tulsa World in late 1945 and was part of an article about my grandmother and her 5 sons who all served during the war and returned home safely. The boy on the right refused to ever wear his Navy uniform after his discharge. Can anyone tell me what specific uniforms are shown. Starting from the left, the first boy was in Iran, we think the second was in an aviator training program in Tulsa, the third was a navigator and the one on the right was in the 744th Light Tank Bn. Appreciate any help on the uniforms.

My grandfather Elliott Harrocks, unit unknown at the time. I love this photo because it's tied to the painting done by his buddy at the VA Hospital. He was stricken with polio and paralyzed for life so my childhood sundays were spent there visiting him. He had friends from the Spanish American War to Korea and I got to meet them all.

His friend took some artistic license and painted him as a LT, part of the charm of the painting. Regardless, he's still my hero.

Here's some photos of my grandfather Frank Urbanitch after he joined the Coast Guard during the war. He was stationed on the Puxahatchee River near Jupiter, Florida. I was surprised he ever handled a weapon in the Coast Guard let alone a Tommy gun so these photos are interesting.

A couple of Sailors who didn't make it home

post-34986-0-51299500-1502939709_thumb.jpg

A James Sherman Aircrewman. James Jackson Sherman (1921-1945) – WWII, USN – Aviation Radioman 2nd Class & Aerial Gunner in Patrol Bombing Squadron 106 (VPB-106). He and his crew of 11 other men fought in Iwo Jima and the Philippines, reported as MIA on July 30, 1945 - just 2 weeks before the end of World War II. VPB-106 was apparently a land base flying unit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VP-106

And a Eugene Helton, Helton unfortunately died in an off duty auto accident at Pensecola Florida.

Patches,

I have a well annotated album from a sailor in VB (VPB) 106 and I will look thru and see if I have a photo, in theatre, of him.
