Bugme Posted November 11, 2010 #5 Posted November 11, 2010 The Liberty Bell came very close to being the M-1917 replacement helmet. However, the soldiers testing it in the field hated the look of it and refused to wear it. The M1917A1 was then issued to fill the gap until the M-1 came to the table. I wonder how many of us would collect U.S. helmets today had the Liberty Bell been the issued lid for WWII?
Sabrejet Posted November 11, 2010 #6 Posted November 11, 2010 The Dutch army wore a helmet of similar shape pre and during WW2. Sabrejet
BOLO Posted November 11, 2010 #7 Posted November 11, 2010 Im glad the US chose the M1917 instead of the Liberty Bell , the M1917 design just looks so much better the Liberty Bell looks similiar to the Swedish M26
