kanemono Posted November 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2010 My uncle served at the American Legation, Peiping China from 1936 to 1938. He had these EGA's with some other Marine insignia in a jewelry box. These EGA's could never been worn since they have no screw posts soldered to the rear. I know they are real period pieces since my uncle left the Marines in 1940 and I remeber seeing them in the early 1950's. Are these unfinished pieces? Bob Hudson Posted November 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 11, 2010 I'd say the blackness is from heat used to unsolder the posts. Nice set, though.
teufelhunde.ret Posted November 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 11, 2010 Hi Dick, yes indeed quite authentic and showing a wonderful aged patina! here is a thread were others are shown. usmcaviator Posted November 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 11, 2010 Bob is correct, the posts have been removed, these are distinctly the N.S. Meyer stamped version. I cant tell from the photo, but look on the large one, on the back of the wings for a faint shield, or the words "Meyer Metal" or "N.S. Meyer New York". Either way I am 99% certain these are Meyer, and your uncle's service dates help to narrow the window for their use. Thanks for posting.
