Hi all,

I would like to hear your opinions on the originality of this BAR sling. It is faintly marked 'JF' on the short end. I know JF was a manufacturor of BAR slings. The sling does not smell like leather.

I don't know about this sling per se, but in my experience leather often does not smell like leather. It's my understanding that as leather looses some moisture and chemicals over the years it also looses the smell (like the "new car smell" the leather smell is from chemicals being released into the air: technically it's air pollution).

You are right Chris, I have encountered 2 things;

60 year old leather wich does not have a leather smell, and 60 year old leather wich smells like it was issued yesterday...

1 year old leather with smell, and the same with virtually no smell...

I guess in the end it all depends on how a leather item was stored, and how it spent its time through time.

Hi Stijn

The sling looks good to me. I have a similar, "JF" marked BAR sling.

Mine doesn't smell like leather eaither, if that could be of any significance :lol:

Best

Carl

100% original. I've owned 2 such slings.

Hi peace, it looks good to me also and it's an early one with the brass claws instead of steel like the mid to late war ones have, Ray
