Y.M.C.A. "rank" insignia of WW1

Can anyone provide some information about the "rank" insignia worn by Y.M.C.A. secretaries during the Great War. I know silver open triangles were worn, see sketches, and suspect the position on the sleeve and the orientation of the triangle has no particular significance. What I'd like to know is what rank titles actually are; I've read of Divisional Secretaries, Area Supervisors etc. The sketches are taken from contemporary photographs.

My mistake; apparently they're service badges. Question is now...

what period of time is represented by each triangle: six months?

Croix de Guerre

They way I understood it was that the triangles mimicked the service stripes used by the AEF; ie. one triangle stood for six months overseas.
