siege1863 Posted October 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2010 Great mounted photo of some of the crew of the USS ILLINOIS. Three of the men wear the apprentice seaman knot. In pencil on the back is the following: Picture of 3rd division of USS Illinois Taken at Guantanamo Mar 1st 1905 This is written left handed as there is a finger taken off during a gun practice. This is a great shot with lots of detail. Notice the different styles of hats, and the assorted way they are being worn. Note the Sailor on the far left standing is a PO3 and has his cuffs turned half way up. The Sailor third from left standing has his cuffs turned all the way up. Interestingly, he also has the same "Camera Stare" as my father always seemed to have in his younger days and wears his hat the same too.
