River Patrol Posted August 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2007 I got this from a WWII Army Pilot's family with little information and it's not something I recognize. This is the decal. There was a patch just like it that will hopefully come to me in the future (but who knows). He served in the Pacific Theater where he was shot down and no longer could fly because of his combat injuries. He was still active after the war but not as a pilot. Could this be some type of training school emblem? Is it post war? Thanks much for any help! Steve
dustin Posted August 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2007 decals are usually associated with very late and post WWII.Late WWII squadron patches and such were sometimes decals on leather.the symbol you have is interesting it seems to depict a lazy aircraft or an aircraft that that is not allowed to fly sitting there waiting which fits with your story of the veteran being considered unfit to fly anymore due to injury.IMO it is a joke/humorous souviner piece for men that are grounded and there was enough of them floating around to warrant the manufacture of this novelty.
