Wow! If you've ever tried to find a photo showing details of old warbird cockpits you know it is next to impossible. I would love to see more of these - just a great, great example of VR - virtual reality.

General Apathy

Hi Noworky, great link to some fantastic cockpit imagery, really enjoyed it thanks.

However there is possibly some good and bad news about this particular aircraft.

I sent the link onto several other friends one of which is a retired aircraft insurance agent for Lloyd's of London, he came back with the following information. This aircraft crashed just over six years ago while performing at an air show. Whilst performing a low level pass the pilot reported loss of engine power and ended up crashing into trees surrounding the airfield resulting in the death of the pilot.

The aircraft was subject to crash investigation and it was found that a retaining washer on a cam shaft cog had not been bent over to secure the retaining nut allowing the cog to move out of position. The engine had about four hundred hours on it since it's last overhaul.

So if there can be good news after the death of the pilot then it would be that the aircraft was saved and rebuilt.

Accident occurred Saturday, May 29, 2004 in Hager City, WI

Probable Cause Approval Date: 3/30/2005

Aircraft: North American P-51C, registration: N61429

Injuries: 1 Fatal.
