Tom Nier Posted October 9, 2010 #1 Posted October 9, 2010 I have copies of the WW2 war diaries for the "Minneapolis" CA36, and the "Montpelier" CL57. The Minnie's diary has an officer & crew list as of October 1945, plus a separate list of former wartime enlisted crew members. The Oct. 1945 list gives only the name & hometown address. The pre-Oct. 1945 list gives just the name and Navy service number which is critical for locating a crew member's records in the National Archives. The Montpelier diary was published in December 1945. It has an officer & crew list sorted by ship's divisions, which list presumably gives the crew as of late 1945. The list gives just name, rank, & ship's division. I would be glad to verify the name of any sailor who is believed to have served on either cruiser. The Minnie's lists will be more informative.
