Was there ever anything in uniform regs about berets?  I know they existed and were worn, but was it something like covering working jackets with patches. Not in regulations, but done anyway. Same with dungarees. Dropped from regs in the early 70s, but guys kept wearing them anyway.

So. I’ve never worn a beret. How were they in the heat and humidity?

So, we’re any of these berets, “Isdued”?  Were they private purchase?, were they “Organizational Clothing”, like the fatigues?  I don’t recall ever seeing anything in uniform regs about them, ( but, I never looked either). Just asking.

The first photo is of this man wearing his beret with River Section 542. Later, he transferred to RivDiv 593 and was a plankowner. This is the same beret given to me by the vet.
