Antoon Posted October 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2010 In my display of colored SSI from the Vietnam war period the most have a merrowed border. I want to know which SSI for the AG uniform could be with a cut edge and which SSI has only been worn with a merrowed border. Thanks in advance – Antoon
noexpert Posted October 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2010 I can only speak for my own experience, but all of my 9th Inf Div color patches are cut edge. I served from 67 - 70.
itshistory Posted October 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2010 I am not 100% certain but I believe that the manufacturing standard that called for the merrowed edge on SSI made for the US Army by contractors was initiated in 1968. What that means is that contractors wishing to supply the SSI had to meet that standard when bidding on the contract. So new manufactured SSI beginning in 1968 had merrowed edges. That did not mean that existing stocks of cut edge SSI had to cease being used. They were probably issued for quite a number of years after 1968 until those stocks were exhausted. As mentioned above, 1969 and 1970 still saw cut edge being used. My own SSI in 1971 and 1972 were cut edge. IH
