That UN PASGT is pretty sweet!

Here's a new one I found, with some interesting insignia and suspension. It was used by a member of the 891st Engineers Battalion, and I believe the original owner made reference to being attached to the 1st Armored Division. Check 'er out!

Thanks Hoovie, Gaz and Longbranch, it is a pretty cool piece and it certainly stands out amongst the sea of M-1 steel in my war room, and even though it's a "peacekeeping" veteran it still served as a piece of protective equipment in a zone of conflict so I think it deserves it's place. I'm glad I held on to it....I had to turn one in so I was lucky to be able to 'acquire' a second one to turn in and keep my issue one. When I first got it, it had a plain UN blue cover with no markings, and yes, it was hard to find the UN marked cover. (a dinner date with the Swedish girl in supply secured the new cover and a supply of UN armbands and a few UN flags to boot  ) The second helmet I 'acquired' was actually painted pale UN blue, but it was butt ugly so it was the obvious choice for the rep dep.

cheers,

Rick

Hey All,

Lets see some pics of the PASGT. I recently got the one I recently found fixed up (see the thread at http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...showtopic=88348). So, I was hoping to see some others.

I had to replace the liner, as well as locate a cover and band. Luckily, the local surplus store had everything I need for less than what I could get it for online. So, she's all finished up. The cover doesn't fit as well as I'd like, but looking at other examples, it seems this is typical. It's not uncommon to see extra improvised straps or green duct tape being used to fasten these covers down...

The surplus store also had a nice complete ACH w/ patched 3rd Division cover for a bit under $100 that was tempting, as I'm trying to get a helmet from each major conflict the U.S. has been involved with from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. Seem like a good deal?

Anyway, here's the "Desert Storm" PASGT, fitted up and ready to go:

Let's see some more PASGT helmets!

I have one pasgt helmet so far here it is with a woodland cover on it. I do not own a different color chin strap at the moment and yes that is a usmc lwh sweat band it’s more comfortable than the old leather one I received. The last pic is my tricolor desert cover and blouse I can’t find anymore pics of the tri color right now.

Here is a prototype helmet I found awhile ago, and the old thread related to these helmets.

I’m jealous of it all but i think I want the crash pad more than anything.

Back of my pasgt I had added the Alice clips to keep the goggles on it works pretty well. The tape on the goggles is to stop the elastic from falling apart.

This was the eBay listing for my pasgt I did not pay 100 for it. I had to toss the foam pad that was in it I didn’t want to but it was just falling apart every time you touched it. The cover on it was a size small on a medium helmet it took a lot of force to get it off but it did come off. The woodland cover I put on it now is the proper size. The seller did a good job on packing it. If I remember right it’s dated 89.

My Kevlar, 1991-94. Being aviation, I used aircraft safety wire to hold the band in place. It was unit SOP to have a mini name tag on the band and those little dudes were a pain to replace if you lost it. I believe this was in response to switching to the Gore-Tex ECWCS parkas that didn't have name tags on them, and the CO wanted to know who he was yelling at by name.

I also thought about using a little bit of copper wire I had and then thought the sharp ends of it could damage the cover or elastic.

That wasn't a major consideration as it was issued to me and it was meant to be used. In fact, sometimes I added indigenous camouflage to it.

Im digging the Alice web gear. I did talk with my neighbor he said he thinks that he gave his brother his helmet which is fine as I’m sure he would have given it to me or his kids.

Can you verify for me that this Gunner here has not been photoshopped in? What provenance do you have exactly?  LOL.  I like this example too D and also your "454" one.  Nice "personal use" addition.

I look on eBay and can find a decent amount of xs ones but people want the same price as you would pay for a medium or large sized one it’s crazy.

I’m jealous I almost got a medium or maybe it was a large one for 55 bucks unfortunately I went back and well it was gone. I should have bought it when I saw it I’ve made that mistake one to many times.

That's how I got to keep mine, my squad leader's wife had been medically discharged and never turned her TA-50 gear in. I bought her Kevlar from him for $25 and turned it in when I got out. Hers was a XS, mine is a MED but the supply guy didn't notice.

OK. Who can actually fit the Medium/Large PASGT Camo Cover over the Large Shell?   I looked all over and found one 3 color DCU cover that is marked as Large instead of Medium/Large.  I can't remember but I think when on active duty I bought an XLarge Woodland Cover that I  soaked in hot water then wrapped the 3/4" nylon tapes around the nylon suspension band an extra time to make it form fit to the Large shell.

We were issued 2 helmet covers or purchased a second new one for Parade Season in Berlin (Allied Forces Day Parade 17 June on 17. Juni Strasse then 4th of July Parade on Platz des 4. Juli)      I just bought 2 PASGT to recreate two different ones I wore, one Woodland the other UN Blue UNPROFOR from Operation Able-Sentry to Skopje Macedonia.,  I tried to put the woodland cover on one and 3 of the 3/4" nylon straps tore off the cover before it would even fit.

The OD7 Camo Bands, I remember using 550 cord through 3 of the garnish slots to tie loops around the screw lugs and the camo band to prevent it from sliding off.

Then SWDG Sun, Wind & Dust Goggles, $10 at Clothing Sales were popular in Mech Infantry, the 2 pairs issued with the CVCs for the Mortar Carrier the lenses were all scratched to heck, I used my own personally purchased pair, later used them in Light Infantry for air assault operations.

I spent some time in the Army Reserve  in 86-87, while in High School before going on active duty after graduation.   I  had a repro German WWII  M40 Helmet from Collector's Armoury that I altered a brand new Woodland M-1 Helmet Cover to fit, wore it to a field drill at Ft Indiantown Gap one weekend, everybody thought I had a PASGT

Chim Chim the Diminutive

My medium prototype PASGT, as manufactured by Geonautics for the testing program. Geonautics was very important in perfecting the mass production of the helmet. For example, they developed the pinwheel shape used in the laminations.
