Divinemind Posted September 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2010 I have come across a Kelly Pad from WW2 and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these? I have been unable to locate any information on this online. I can post pics if needed. I believe these were used as follows: Kelly's pad, a horseshoe-shaped inflatable rubber drainage pad used in a bed or on the operating table. Mosby's Medical Dictionary, 8th edition. © 2009, Elsevier. Does anyone know when these were first used by the US military? Is this a rare find? Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance

med-dept Posted September 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2010 Hi DM, Unfortunately, I cannot find any relation to the Kelly Pad in the 1941, 1942, 1943 or indeed 1944 Medical Department Supply Catalogs. I still need to check in the 1947 and 1949 Army-Navy Catalog of Medical Materiel, but I can tell you that this particular item wasn't issued by the US Army Medical Department during WW2. Since the Army and Navy Medical Departments were separate during WW2, it could be that the piece relates to the US Navy Medical Department. Other than the pencilled marking on the kraft paper wrapper, are there any other markings or indications on the piece itself? These would certainly help in identifying the date and issuer of the piece from the Item / Stock Number. Hope that helps, Ben.
