gilhoolie Posted August 15, 2011 #178 Posted August 15, 2011 A semi-studio photo of Brigadier General Samuel Rockenback, 1919.
sgtdorango Posted August 16, 2011 #180 Posted August 16, 2011 I just picked this one up, the cannon is about 12 inches long, some kind of cast metal with gold coloring, i think its WWI, cant tell much from the uniform, very plain but cool display!...has a metal wire stand that folds out....im not sure if the cannon is because he was in the artillery or if it has something to do with his unit, i noticed a 26th Div helmet with the same painted cannon??.... ...mike
rvandehoef Posted August 21, 2011 #182 Posted August 21, 2011 Here's an RPPC from a 1st Army Engineer. If you look closely you can see a small horizontal bar just beneath his 3 OS stripes (see arrow), does anyone know what this bar means? I know it signifies something, but I can't remember what :pinch: It's the second time I've seen this bar on a photo, so I guess these must be rare? Hopefully anyone knows. Rogier

navyman Posted August 27, 2011 #190 Posted August 27, 2011 This may be pre ww1. This studio photo is named and I found he enlisted in 1911. He has a 4 year service hash mark, so the earliest this picture would be from 1915. But could be later. This one was taken in Reading Pa. Jason

spd811 Posted August 30, 2011 #194 Posted August 30, 2011 Sergeant Rudolph Albert Reiche, Company K, 26th Inf Regiment 1st Division Great photo. What does the arm band represent?
BigJohn#3RD Posted August 31, 2011 #195 Posted August 31, 2011 Great photo. What does the arm band represent? The arm band is a VFW armband, you will also note that he is wearing a VFW Medal so I am assuming that the photo was taken in the early 20's as he has his victory medal on as well. Thank you for your interest. Regards, John
BigJohn#3RD Posted August 31, 2011 #196 Posted August 31, 2011 Here is a studio photo of SGT James Shearer Headquarters, 9th Infantry Regiment 2nd Division WWI. He commented on the back I look like H _ _ _! And I feel the same as I look I wonder WHY? I believe that this photo was taken during occupation duty because he does not have his collar discs on and no chevrons for overseas service and according to his discharge he spent 18 months overseas from Sep 1917 until Aug 1919.
BigJohn#3RD Posted August 31, 2011 #197 Posted August 31, 2011 Here is another studio photo of SGT James Shearer and I believe his brother Charles who was a Corporal both are assigned to Headquarters, 9th Infantry Regiment 2nd Division WWI. He commented: Pretty Rotten Picture isn't it I will have to have another taken. I believe that this photo was also taken during occupation duty because neither have their collar discs on and no chevrons for overseas service and according to his discharge he spent 18 months overseas from Sep 1917 until Aug 1919.
spd811 Posted September 1, 2011 #198 Posted September 1, 2011 Photo of a local guy from Lawrence County, Mo. I haven't been able to find out much info on the "conflicts" or injuries listed on his honor roll book listing.
bluemesa159 Posted September 1, 2011 #199 Posted September 1, 2011 My 1st cousin, 2x removed - John Harold Crane. Yeah, the writing has his last name as Craine... depending on the family source, we have that line listed as Crain, Craine & Crane. He was born on Aug 24, 1893 in Leominster, Massachusetts. I would love to find out more about his service... unit, location, etc.
