patches Posted August 1, 2013 #302 Posted August 1, 2013 Did research on this man. He had been in 1912-1915, then must have been drafted back in in 1917 and remained in the service until the 1920's Re-Enlisted I would think, would some one with prior service be drafted during any period of time when the draft was in place? Plus there it was not like it is now, with the IRR,, that started after WWII, know what we know about the hugh amount of inactive Reserves recalled because of the Korean Police Action, in this case, these men were recalled to active service, not drafted, though some might not be able to see the distinction between the two, as the end result was the same.
338thRCT Posted October 5, 2013 #304 Posted October 5, 2013 A troop of the US Reserves Artillery named Allen ( or Albon?) McGregor
338thRCT Posted October 27, 2013 #306 Posted October 27, 2013 Here's a couple of photos that I obtained today.
439th Signal Battalion Posted October 27, 2013 #308 Posted October 27, 2013 I am unaware of who this is, but since it was in with some of my family images, I am assuming he is a distant relative from MItchell County, North Carolina.

tarbridge Posted October 27, 2013 #310 Posted October 27, 2013 Nice picture, very clear. Interesting that the flag is upside-down? RC It might be one continuous banner that is folded over?
RustyCanteen Posted October 27, 2013 #311 Posted October 27, 2013 Good point, makes for an interesting background though! RC
tarbridge Posted October 27, 2013 #312 Posted October 27, 2013 I just picked up this photo marked from a Wilmington,NC studio. He is wearing a DSC,British MM medal, WWI Victory and looks to be a NC WWI Service medal. So, he could have been a NC 30th Div soldier and some of them were attached to British units. This Sailor was a WWI Aviator who was awarded a Navy Cross. He was killed shortly after. Ensign Edward S Pou USN Pilot Aviator at USN Air Station, sea Plane Detachment: Ille Tudy France. He is credited with the sinking of one German Submarine. He was from Johnston Co. North Carolina...
439th Signal Battalion Posted October 27, 2013 #314 Posted October 27, 2013 It might be one continuous banner that is folded over? I would concur that as well.
338thRCT Posted October 27, 2013 #315 Posted October 27, 2013 The only piece of identification on this soldier was that he was noted as McG. in an album. 1st picture shows him in 1917.
lastpost Posted May 25, 2014 #317 Posted May 25, 2014 Felt I would add this intersting Photo of a Chinese American Doughboy unit unknown, note the personal award of the Croix d Guerre with Star. I did not see any additional information regarding this photograph but though it might be of interest. I believe the photograph depicts Private (later Color Sergeant) Sing Kee of the 306th Infantry. The photo would have been taken prior to him being presented with the Distinguished Service Cross. He already in wearing the French Croix de Guerre.

I also have a fantastic newspaper clipping giving a bio of Kee as well as the citation for the DFC but am unable to post it to the forum due to image size limitations. At 251k it is simply impossible to read the newsprint type.

Mitter2k1 Posted May 25, 2014 #321 Posted May 25, 2014 Here are the three that I have. These have been posted elsewhere on the forum but I figured that I would add them here as well. The first one in my great grandfather Fred J. Mitts, a corporal in the 161st Depot Brigade. He spent most of his time in the Army at Camp Grant, Illinois and when he finally shipped over, the Armistice was signed and he came home. The next two are of a 33rd Division Sergeant Art Frick, at least that is what the name written on the back looks like. You can see the wound stripe on one sleeve and the overseas stripes on the other. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to research him and may do it this week at the military museum in town. I have been told that they have a vast amount of records on the 33rd and it may be worth it to see if they have any info available. Either way it is looking like a win-win for me. Thanks, Mike
gunbunnyB/3/75FA Posted May 26, 2014 #322 Posted May 26, 2014 these are some awesome pic's, i wish i had some of them(lol!) all i have is just a few yardlongs.
bertmedals Posted August 3, 2014 #323 Posted August 3, 2014 Here is my favorite from my collection. 26th Division vet with 3 overseas stripes, 1 wound stripe, a 4-bar Victory Medal, and what appear to be WWI service medals for New York State, the VFW, and one other that I have not been able to ID (far left).
