What is the medal on the right?

UK OBE (Order of the British Empire)


It's actually the Order of the British Empire - Military Department. There were two versions; the military one has the small center gray stripe. the civilian was was without the center stripe.

The ribbon is of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Military Division). The ribbon is of the 2nd type (Post 1936).

The grade of the award looks to be (according to the tone/colour of the emblem) of the grade of Officer (OBE) as oppose to

the grade of Member (MBE).

If it is a OBE, then the rank of the recipient at the time of the award would be around a LTC or full Colonel.
