White Chevron Back Plate

Before the Army adopted the bright, gold-colored pin-on chevrons for windbreakers and raincoats these were used behind the black, subdued chevrons so we could wear them on non-field garments. If memory serves me correctly, this would have been from 1970 to about 1976 or 1977.

I've never seen it used that way LOL. If you are familiar with the "Spec 4" and up, flip the plastic part around and one of those fit perfectly.

1970's time frame.

were they one size fit all?

No, each rank device had it's own custom fitted backing. There might have been a few that would fit a hard stripe rank and if inverted, would fit one of the specialist rank devices, but I'm not sure about that. I do know that those are hard to find nowdays. I have one that fits a Spec 5 and would like to find the rest of them that fit the other ranks.
