kjones5452 Posted August 19, 2010 #2 Posted August 19, 2010 Ya'll might have seen something like this before but I haven't. I'm not sayin ones not out there I'm just sayin I've never seen or heard of one.
Sabrejet Posted August 28, 2010 Author #3 Posted August 28, 2010 Just under 4 hours to go...373 hits and stuck at $1500..no bids or BINs (yet!) The suspense is killing me! Watch this space! Sabrejet

Watch this space!Sabrejet This may very well be a legit experimental US helmet, but I doubt it's from WWII. Natick did all sorts of mods to the M1 helmets all the way through the adoption of the PASGT helmet.
Wild Bill Kelso Posted August 28, 2010 #5 Posted August 28, 2010 Whatever it is, this helmet is to high priced!
Sabrejet Posted August 28, 2010 Author #6 Posted August 28, 2010 Whatever it is, this helmet is to high priced! I agree Wild Bill. The apparent lack of bids seems to suggest that others feel the same. That said, I've seen expensive helmets get snapped up with seconds to go so we'll just have to wait and see! Sabrejet
Sabrejet Posted August 28, 2010 Author #7 Posted August 28, 2010 Well...the auction just ended but, not surprisingly, the helmet didn't sell! Personally, I think the vendor set his asking price too high at $1500. A lower price would probably have encouraged some competitive bids. It'll be interesting to see if he re-lists at a lower price. Bugme Posted August 29, 2010 #8 Posted August 29, 2010 Pictures????? when the auction ends, the pic's will be gone.
Sabrejet Posted August 29, 2010 Author #16 Posted August 29, 2010 Thanks Nick! Still haven't figured out how to do that myself! So you didn't bid on it then?! Ian
NickD Posted August 29, 2010 #17 Posted August 29, 2010 yeah right wish i had that sort of money to throw around or should that be throw away :laughing1:
Wild Bill Kelso Posted August 29, 2010 #18 Posted August 29, 2010 The design looks like a bit to the early german/austrian Bundeswehr helmets. I know from a recruit that there liners often got out of place...
Wild Bill Kelso Posted August 29, 2010 #20 Posted August 29, 2010 I think he´s a mixture between an early Bundeswehr hemet with an U.S. vientam era liner. You can name it an "experimental US helmet" The liner is self rivetting work because helmet and liner dont´t fit.
ken Posted August 29, 2010 #21 Posted August 29, 2010 The rivets that stick out towards the head look like they could cause some injuries. Any idea what they were for?
Sabrejet Posted August 29, 2010 Author #22 Posted August 29, 2010 The rivets that stick out towards the head look like they could cause some injuries. Any idea what they were for? I've no idea what they're for, but I entirely agree with you re the potential for injury. Their presence just seems to make the alleged validity of this helmet much less plausible, in my humble opinion. Sabrejet
