coastie Posted January 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2007 I thought I would share these. These are from a roll of negatives found in a thirft store bin. Nedless to say it cost about 5 cents. They are a little rough but enjoy.
Hawk914 Posted January 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2007 Five cents? Geez, I gotta start checking out thrift stores... They're not too rough, as you say... and there's some nice shots here; that closeup of the tail gunner's position is somewhat unique and I really like those two views of the gunners. It's interesting how the image is distorted in a couple of shots which look to have been taken through the CFC gunner's blister. That first photo shows a B-29-35-BW and is the only shot which gives any hint of what unit these ships may have belonged to. Kinda looks like a stateside outfit from here. Groovy stuff, thanks for posting these! Fade to Black...

I'm looking at Boeing's production list and they have a B-29-40-BW with the number of 42-24583 would this be the same number on the tail with the 4 dropped off? Hawk914 Posted January 4, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 4, 2007 Yes, the first digit was dropped off when the serial was applied to the tail. Is the second last digit an '8'? Looked like a '6' to me. I thought I looked at it long and hard to make sure... BUT my eyes are getting worse every day! Anyhoo, if it's 42-24583 then it's a dash-40, yes. If it's 42-24563 then it's a dash-35. Fade to Black...

Hawk914 Posted January 5, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 5, 2007 Groovy... nice to know my eyes aren't totally gone yet... LOL I've been looking through my stuff to try and find some B-29s similarly marked to the one in your first photo, but no joy so far... will keep looking... Fade to Black...
