WWII Hand Operated Bilge Pump

Well . . . half of one anyway :ermm:

 

I love oddities, and this fit the bill for me. It is about a yard long, but looks like it was trimmed and hammered smooth at the bottom. Made of thin steel and riveted along the seam. 4" diameter on the tube. Inside is a leather cone shaped plunger

It matches pics I've seen of the manual pump on the nose of DUKW's (Those are about 6' long), just cut short

Was the brass flapper valve located at the bottom of pump? If so, I guess mine was relocated when the pump was shortened ????
