My son recently received these from a forum member (thanks, Jean!) As you can see the stripes are sown on green wool/felt. I have not come across this variation before. Are they rare? Who used them? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say they are just a manufacturers variation, possibly made overseas postwar. :think:

I think they are US made because I have seen them on both ETO and PTO uniforms. They aren't all that common but not what would be considered rare.

I second what craig says. however, I have seen many more PTO uniforms with these than I have seen ETO uniforms. I am not sure why, but maybe someone else can comment on my observation.

 

I would say they are not very common, but they aren't rare. They pop up occasionally but they're certainly not as abundant as the other variations of chevrons.
