ehrentitle Posted July 31, 2010 #1 Posted July 31, 2010 I obtained this OTAN-NATO Air Force Style Patch a few weeks in a lot of patches from an auction. The seller said it was a Desert Storm era patch made in Turkey. The back is interesting as the stitching is all black. Has anyone here seen this patch before and know the story behind it?
Mark1 Posted July 31, 2010 #2 Posted July 31, 2010 I believe this is a Canadian patch, sense it has french and english on it. OTAN is French for NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). It probably belongs to a Canadian aircrew on a NATO AWACS (Airborne Early Warning System and Control) aircraft. the subdued patch could have be used in the 1980's up to the present. Mark
ehrentitle Posted July 31, 2010 Author #3 Posted July 31, 2010 Mark - Thanks, that's a possible explanation. But did the Canadians use the same style of patches as the US Air Force? The two official languages of NATO are English and French, but it's interesting that OTAN (Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord) comes first.
ehrentitle Posted August 4, 2010 Author #4 Posted August 4, 2010 I still have not figured out what this patch is for, any ideas?
ehrentitle Posted August 28, 2010 Author #5 Posted August 28, 2010 I'm reviving this thread in the hopes there is someone here who can ID it.
