48MMS Posted July 27, 2010 #1 Posted July 27, 2010 I actually got out of collecting for about 15 years. Once I got out I had other areas of concern. Then about 6 years ago I was cleaning out my briefcase and found several of my unit patches. I was missing about 7-8 and remembered my son talking about ebay. I immediately found a patch I needed in color, the 27th AGS, my unit at Cannon AFB. I then found USAFPatches.com but better yet, SACPatches.com run by Steve Brown. It is gone, but what it did was show me many scans of old SAC units that frankly I had no idea existed. It was a blast from the past. Now my SAC collection is tiny in comparison to most, but I collect not to have the largest or even entire SAC arsenal of patches, I collect to display a history in cloth. I have had a fair number of letters via my webpage from veterans who really enjoyed seeing their old unit. But SACPatches.com really got me going, and today I received a (B-47 era?) 380th Organizational Maintenance Squadron. One of those patches I NEVER thought I'd see much less own. Patience has paid off! And for me, they bring back the memories of growing up around a SAC base and what all military members have to endure to keep us FREE. Knowing that this patch was worn by someone who defended our Country makes it worth way more than the $40 odd dollars I paid!
48MMS Posted July 27, 2010 Author #2 Posted July 27, 2010 Another, the 410th Airborne Missile Maintenance Squadron, K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan. This is my prized maintenance patch.

There is a site out there called the Internet Archive Wayback Machine that have many sites backed up. Here is the sacpatches.com site, http://web.archive.org/web/20070704193348/...sacpatches.com/ I saved the link to the site. And here is the Internet Archive Wayback Machine site. It's very helpful in finding some sites that are no longer around. It's an awesome site!!! http://www.archive.org/web/web.php Robert
48MMS Posted July 27, 2010 Author #4 Posted July 27, 2010 Thanks for the link! I did a quick survey and have these in my collection that are on the site: Maintenance: 74 Combat Defense: 7 Air Refueling: 33 Missile: 19 Bombardment Squadrons: 25 Bombardment Wings: 43 Gunner: 1 Not too bad, but there are patches on that site that will present a great challenge, but then that's the fun of the hobby!
Lee Ragan Posted July 27, 2010 #5 Posted July 27, 2010 Another, the 410th Airborne Missile Maintenance Squadron, K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan. This is my prized maintenance patch. For those of you unfamiluar with these patches, the 410th Airborne Missile Maintenance Squadron, maintained the Hound Dog cruise misslie, hence the flying hound dog on the patch. The 644th Bombardment Squadron of the 410th Bomb Wing carried two of those birds on each B-52 back in the day. Yep... that is one neat patch!

My Pleasure. And thanks for mentioning the site . Added it to my favorites. Not all sites that have disappeared can been found or backed up but quite a few are and the Wayback Machine has come in handy Robert
Mark1 Posted July 28, 2010 #7 Posted July 28, 2010 here are the patches, the 644 BS(H) and the GAM-77 Hound Dog
48MMS Posted July 28, 2010 Author #8 Posted July 28, 2010 I want to post a similar patch to the blue GAM-77 patch (used by the the 450th or 379th AMMS, I forget). Any clues to who if anyone used this patch?
48MMS Posted July 28, 2010 Author #9 Posted July 28, 2010 Another of the harder to find FMS units, the 454th Field Maintenance Squadron.
48MMS Posted July 28, 2010 Author #10 Posted July 28, 2010 Often mistaken for the 19th Munitions Maintenance Squadron, this is actually the 64th MMS.
48MMS Posted July 28, 2010 Author #11 Posted July 28, 2010 New today, an old 93rd Bombardment Wing. Thinking 60's???
