Opions on a USS NC item

Oops, that should read opinions, not opions.

I bought this a couple of years ago on EBay.

I think it may be from when the USS NC was still in commision during WWII, instead of a souvenir from the memorial in Wilmington, NC. She was in service from 1941 to 1947, mothballed & moved to Wilmington in 1962.

It seems like its made of canvas to me & I think it looks handmade instead of mass produced.

The ears & tail appear to be felt.

It just looks like something from the 40's as opposed to the 60's or 70's, but I could be wrong.

Think it's possible this could have been made for sale on the ship or maybe they would print a particular ships name on the (dog or elephant, I don't know which!) for sale at a port.

I have a lot of USS NS items & it seems usually the stuff from Wilmington, has Battleship NC or USS NC Memorial on it.

Any ideas?
