patches Posted January 28, 2020 Share #89 Posted January 28, 2020 Good eye, didn't notice that. Revisiting this photo Kurt A noticing the chinstrap, after study, this chinstrap s not even your standard officers service cap chinstrap, which is what, what s this called, flat bullion???, this one he's wearing is a metal one with vertical segmented whatever you want to call it, doesn't appear to be slide keepers either. Wonder what it is he's wearing, a chinstrap form a civilian Marching Band Shako??? And why is wearing it?

Vanderbilt Posted August 21, 2022 Share #95 Posted August 21, 2022 .....just another small tidbit to add to this conversation. In my time with the 2/11 ACR. I remember one of the tankers arrived as an E4 hard stripe Corporal. While there after passing the promotion board. He was promoted to the E5 rank of Specialist 5. Yes it would seem by the late 60s Hard Stripe Corporals made a come back in Combat Arms units other then Artillery and Infantry Pathfinders. We had them when I was in in the early 80s in Hood and Alaska, 11Bs all of them. Check out this topic for those late 60s ones.

S.ChrisKelly Posted April 21, 2023 Share #98 Posted April 21, 2023 Forgive me if I'm redundant. However, my understanding is that while the Army did create all the specialist ranks, no one was ever promoted to specialist 8 or specialist 9. Someone's probably mentioned that at some point, likely post-1975, the Army started to begin getting away from "non-supervisory NCOs", thus reducing the previous grades to one, simply "specialist", at E-4. Insofar as collecting, these "super-specialist" ranks are rare, in demand, and have been reproduced. cavcon Posted April 21, 2023 Share #99 Posted April 21, 2023 Don’t think any have really been reproduced. Those in the photos look original 50’s 60’s era. I have never seen an E9 but I think someone posted an E8 being worn.
S.ChrisKelly Posted April 21, 2023 Share #100 Posted April 21, 2023 Just an opinion... These look fake to me, and I do tend to be suspicious when multiples are offered, especially for a rank never awarded.
