Hello everyone. I had a great day at some local sales Sat. I happened to pick up this coat from a person who said it was there father in laws. It was passed on to her husband. I dont know much about air force rank, and this doesnt look familiar. Can someone help me date the jacket, get his rank and tell me about the patch...Thanks for the help...

If I am reading it right, the DSA100-75-C-1200 means that it was made in 1975. I don't know the Air Force very well, but the only enlisted ranks I could find in a search had 5 chevrons on the bottom. After that, rockers are added up top. I'm interested to find out if this is an obsolete rank patch or something, as it has 6 chevrons. Emblem looks like either "Supply and Fuels" or "Logistics Plans" but I am not sure.

That is the old rank of Master Sergeant.

With the old pre '91 AF rank system, I could never keep the titles straight. But I knew that you counted the stripes and added one and you had the pay grade. Notice the "Shadows" on the cuffs and front where the reflective tape was removed? Pretty cool.

Msgt Maintenance Troop, reflective tape removed, whats interesting is no unit or MAJCOM patch on the pocket.

There also is a strip in the middle of the back that looks like reflective tape was there at one time. I didnt notice any indication that a patch was ever on the pocket. No thread holes or fading. Oh, always check your pockets... ;)...I sometimes forget...I found two pins inside the bottom pocket.

The pins found in the pocket are the 1958-1991 Senior Master Sergeant (E-8) rank and a Master Munitions Maintenance Specialist badge. (Actually the rank pin would probably date from the late 1960's till 1991 as the pin-on's didn't see widespread use till later.)
