Disney artist Hank Porter created this illustration in the fall of 1942. The Marine Corps contacted Disney asking for some artwork, which they wanted to use on publicity material including posters and calendars.

This image can be seen in an RKO-Pathe News newsreel from the ‘40s. In the footage Walt Disney and several other artists are standing around Hank Porter’s desk talking about insignia designs. The art shown in this post is visible on Porter’s desk.

If anyone happens to see an item with this art depicted, please send me a pm as I'd be interested in adding the item to my collection. The image in this post is a xerox that came to me via the Porter family.
