Here's another name stamp by the "Western Costume Co." stamp- "J.O. CASSITY". Can't help but wonder if these were used in any War films....

Rear end...there had to have been complaints about each side only having 1 front and 1 rear pocket, contributing to the changes made in early 1944:

The other '42 Suit, displayed with Mosquito Covered Helmet; just realized I don't have any detail shots of it  There are some minor differences between this and the previous one.

Mike, I almost said "When did you not have F.F.?", but I hear what you're saying...about the time you think you're over it, some little doo-dad will bring up a recurrence and you're as "sick" as ever   That's what happened when I rediscovered this thread!

Hey GI, great to "see" you again, and thanks for the compliments (still haven't snagged a mint '42 Coat to go with the mint extra Pants though). I darn near forgot about this thread, and it would be an excellent reference topic; I'm glad the Administration pinned it here in the specialized section.

A close-up of the 2nd '42 Utility Coat. This one is made from a differing dye batch than the other one:

The back- this Coat is named to "P.V. BOROFSKY" across the back; the USMF "Independent Research Team" has informed me that he was a member of an Armoured Unit in the 3rd Marine Division. Makes good sense, as the 3rd received their 'Flage Utility issue for the Solomons about the same time in 1943 as the SecMarDiv got theirs for the Gilberts, Marianas, etc..

These are a 32" waist, and have only 4 snaps. These are likely early production, as the snaps are brass instead of the more commonly seen plated steel...

As mentioned, there are some differences between these 2 Suits. The "Craig" Coat is fitted with chromed steel snaps, the other with galvanized (they don't call us "thread counters" for nothin', do they??). Yeah, I know...big deal...heh heh...

The most striking difference is the Trousers. They tend to be staggered on each side normally (front on the right side, rear on the left), but the "early" Pants have both rear pockets on the right side.

This- to me, at least- is the most interesting trivia concerning the '42 Utility Suit: it is virtually identical in design to the Army's 1942 Experimental O.D.-to-'Flage 2-Piece Jungle Suit:

The Trousers- again, about identical, down to the patch pocket on the left rear side. It's kind of a wonder to me that this O.D./camo fabric was not approved over the garish tan camo, as it just seems a more practical design.

No USMC Camouflage thread would be complete without a little Paraflage...here, a Coat, Utility, Parachutist:
