HBT Posted January 3, 2007 Share #27 Posted January 3, 2007 Chris what regiment was he in?,Would his family have any pictures that we could share?. Cheers, Dave. Dave, He was attached to HQ Company with the MOS "Scout". His diaries and records verify him doing recon for more than one regiment. Although he is listed on the Service side of FSSF in their unit roster, I have photos as early as Helena (1942) of him in jump wings, and I have his general order for the CIB. This particular vet disproves the absolute notion that service FSSF guys NEVER wore CIBs or Jump Wings, but that is due to his MOS (Scout/Recon). If you go to my website www.rallypointmilitaria.com, I have this uniform exhibited with more photos. ---Chris
craig_pickrall Posted January 3, 2007 Share #28 Posted January 3, 2007 I don't really collect dress stuff but I do have a few. I always liked this one. The SSI and the DI's are wool felt.
craig_pickrall Posted January 3, 2007 Share #29 Posted January 3, 2007 This 1st CAV with matching shirt is pretty neat too. The shirt is dated 1938.
craig_pickrall Posted January 3, 2007 Share #30 Posted January 3, 2007 Even though it was his previous unit this GI keep his DI's to the 17th CAV Recon. Both SSI have dog tag chain beading around the patches. I found the lighter in the pocket after I got it home. Nice extra.

APO472 Posted January 3, 2007 Share #33 Posted January 3, 2007 Great Uniforms! Always fun to look at. Attached is one of my favorites as I like 101st/506th things. This is from Aurther Ruggia who was the Battalion Surgeon for the 907th Glider Infantry of the 101st. Of special interest is the rare "Bando type 8" 101st patch and the rare 907th DI. His ribbons are also the sew on variety.

HBT Posted January 5, 2007 Share #40 Posted January 5, 2007 I've owned this grouping for a long time and it's still one of my favorites. The items belongs to SEAL Team 1 Veteran Gary R. Smith. He did numerous tours in Vietnam with Seal Team 1, including one tour w/ PRU (Operation Phoenix). He has authored five books about his time spent as a SEAL in Vietnam, etc. --Chris

CNY Militaria Posted January 5, 2007 Author Share #44 Posted January 5, 2007 I believe it has to do with where they were stationed. I can't remember what Oise is, buit ADSEC is Advanced Section. I have a doctor's uniform with an ADSEC tab on it as well.
2ad82recon Posted January 5, 2007 Share #45 Posted January 5, 2007 OISE is a sector in France as in like a department...ADvance SECtion...yes that seems to work What about Advanced Sector ? that seem plausible Funnily enough i think one of dads uniform sets was a doctor in the OISE section. and Bremerhaven is a large seaport on the North German coast...go figure Regards Lloyd
David Tiffin Posted January 6, 2007 Share #46 Posted January 6, 2007 Here are a couple of photos of my favorite jacket. USMC dress mess to Major Saunders Jr. dated 1928. Another photo. Last shot. It is a real beauty!
DevilDan1900 Posted January 6, 2007 Share #47 Posted January 6, 2007 David, Great USMC Mess Dress! 1928 makes that a nice early one too. I always thought those were quite an impressive looking uniform. Even more so when they have the shoulder cords (can't remember how to spell the proper term for them, aguilette?) or when they are bedecked with a couple General's stars worth of medals. Truly an elegant piece.

HBT Posted January 6, 2007 Share #49 Posted January 6, 2007 Chris,Absolutely stunning!! A named Force group and a VN Seal documented group who is an author to boot! Can it get any better? Thank you for noticing Camo Para! I am sure there are plenty more named First Special Service Force and Navy Seal uniform groupings out there, and I would love to see them posted for others to enjoy. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Camo Para has a uniform grouping or two tucked away in his den. Let's see something... ---Chris
