Ever find any that someone else 'used' as something else post war? Think a child got a hold of this one to use a notepad haha. Have another that has finances in the back of it all worked out for several months, kind of like a checkbook.

This one is really short, but I liked the 'nose art' applied. Crewmember of PBY to VPB-44.

This one was kind of funny.....bought it 'blindly'....starts out training in a PBY....several months worth....then suddenly right when you assume he's heading overseas to combat....nothing! Turns out he ended up getting transferred on to some ships....a few evacuation transports and a cargo ship! Oh well.

I have a few more interesting ones, esp one in a grouping I will eventually post. Again, nothing that comes close to matching previous books, but I thought I'd share. Each logbook tells it's own story; a pretty intimate, precise story which is why I like them so much. Hopefully we can see some more in people's collections. I'll add more when I can if it's ok.

Here is my family's Aviator Logbook of my uncle, Lt. William R Larson of Hanks, North Dakota. He was a SOC pilot on the USS Nashville, served during the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, and later a TBF pilot with VC 38 over the Solomon Islands while island hopping from Guadalcanal and Munda. He was MIA during transport plane crash returning from 7 day R&R in Sydney, Australia on Dec 27 1943. The bombing photo is of Kara Airfield bombing 31 October 1943. William's plane was one of the 24 TBFs that attacked that day.

This logbook belonged to MSgt R F Kennedy of VMSB-243

Multiple NAP reference material: Cannot locate a NAP R. F. Kennedy prior to 1946. VMSB-243 website photograph of pilots discloses Raymond F. Kennedy as Executive Officer to the Commanding Officer, Major Joseph Kean (Kean took over squadron 1 October 1944). Same website has a photograph of Kennedy wearing a ballcap with what appears to be Captain's bars. There are 4 Kennedy names in Naval Aviation Pilot rosters-Navy Harold L. NAP 1945, Marine Jack A. NAP 1947, Marine Raymond F. NAP 1946, and Navy William F. 1947.

My Dad was a USMC Naval Airman January 1943 2nd Lieutenant

He served in the South Pacific theater through 1946 and the Korea Conflict through 1954

He flew TBF and TBM -1 through 3E, Hellcat F6F-5n Corsair F4U-4, B25-J, C47 and R4D-5 in the SP theater

He was assigned to HMX-1 in 1947 with VMO-6 in 1947 through 1954

I am looking for a definition of two phrases he uses in his logbook remarks section during SP operations

1) GROUP GRIND referencing TBM flights (cannot find any internet reference to "group grind" other than video gaming)

2) 2AS and 6AS referencing TBM flights (number denotes hours? anti-submarine or assault Support?)

I wish to thank you in advance for any light you can shed on these logbook terms

Its to a Radioman Gunner with VT-45 on the USS San Jacinto. Its the same ship George Bush served on, but not the same squadron,
