Will Posted June 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 28, 2010 Acquired at a flea market yesterday. I suppose "banner" would be a more appropriate term, since it was not made to fly as a flag. It presumably hung in a squadron facility, such as a briefing room. VMSB-141 was a Marine Corps scouting-bomber squadron that saw extensive action in the Pacific. The banner is 42 1/2 inches long by 36 inches wide. It is a combination of machine stitching and hand stitching, reflecting a great deal of work. The Marine bulldog, in front of a bomb with a burning fuse, holds a Japanese rising sun flag in his jaws while on his chest he displays the Presidential Unit Citation and the Pacific Campaign ribbon, both of which were done in a chain stitch. I thought that this was an impressive piece of history for a heroic squadron.
