Jeff, those are perfectly correct whites for a WW2 era Seaman. A wash with a bit of BIz or other additive (avoid bleach), on a gentle cycle, hang them up to air dry. Turn them inside out and then press them flat. If you would like step by step instructions with photos, let me know and I will send them to you. Nice set. Most likely late war/imediate post was (Pre '49) due to the location of the stencile

Great! Thanks again for the professional info. They fit too! Now I would like to find a rating for it Machinist Mate 3rd class. I know they were supposed to be black.

Well, you'll have to remove the blue Seaman stripe from the shoulder.
