The Meatcan Posted June 15, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2010 cool pix! I'll bet you had a ton of fun. Is it possible to look through the bombsight? If so, how cool was that? Terry
Alec Posted June 15, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted June 15, 2010 Worth the money and recommend it to anyone who has the oppotunity. Had freedom to visit all the plane except rear gun. Canopy was off of communication section so you could et 170mph wind blow if you wanted it. Walking through the bomb racks midflight was interesting. mmerc20 Posted June 15, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2010 I know exactly what you mean Alec. I went for a flight in 2003 when I was living out in California and they had the top hatch open too. I wasn't tall enough to stick my head out all the way to look, but I stuck my camera out and took a blind shot. This is what I took. It is as we were going south down the CA coast near Half Moon Bay. mmerc20 Posted June 15, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 15, 2010 Regarding the bomb sight, I have a funny story about that. Of course I wanted to look through the sight as we flew over San Francisco so I did. The problem was that the rubber cushion around the lens wasn't there and as I attempted to sight in on the city we hit a little turbulence and it cracked me in the face. willysmb44 Posted June 16, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 16, 2010 I’ve flown on that B-17 a few times when I lived in Florida, scored a few “volunteer” rides in that and the B-24 as well, even scored a formation ride with them in a P-51 once, too. If it weren’t for that, I’d have paid for one of these rides long before now. It’s an amazing experience, one I strongly recommend to all military and airplane fans.
