I believe that is a 1916 pattern Enlisted cap EGA http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...p?showtopic=603 - a similar one just sold on ebay for $157.50 so your $10 was invested well.

At some point we will set up an additional part of the EGA reference that is a photo gallery that you can go through the try to match your EGA's.

That's a nice EGA you picked up there. It's actually a little earlier than the '16 pattern though.

I like the helmet and knife

is the finish on the helmet the same type used during the Vietnam War?

kind of a fine sand paper like texture?

I think this was surplused, because the Ordnance Bomb is "Dotted out" but still legible on the buttplate.

the maker is "buffed out" on the crossguard also. Looks like a faint "Imperial" under the USM3 stamp.

I will post pics later.

The photo shows a great closeup of the texture.. Def Sand style. the difference is the OD color. its definitely not Nam period. its Darker more like the WW2 lids.

The pot looks Korean war vintage....very nice, the metal fittings that clamp the chin strap to the bales are OD painted , Nam ones are normally black....mike

What you have with the crossed rifles and the tank is an enlisted design for Infantry (Tanks). This short lived device was approved in March of 1922 and lasted until August of 1933. All you need is the square centered disc and the two pronged nut that holds the device in place on the collar and it is complete. I think all the tread heads here would be on top of it as I have not seen one before in 20 + years of collecting.
