I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling. But that's just me.The camo seems too fresh and the stitching off, but I'm not a USMC cover expert so just my $.02

I'm going to say bad. Like Clapton, I don't get a great feeling about it. Possibly repro, but then the background color on the green side actually looks quite convincing...

The guy selling it says it was an unissued mint item found many years ago and has been in his collection for 25 yrs. But anyone can make up a story. I don't care for the fact you cannot see a clear shot of the HBT weaving.

I don't like it either, there's something about the coloring. I like to see a specific green color which I don't see here. Sorry.

I wouldn't lose much sleep over it, it screams "repro" to me. I have two mint helmet covers at home, (as well as a few repros), and the colors and edge stitching on this example look very much like the repops. For $130, maybe I should sell them off....

Sgt Saunders

It looks like a dead ringer of the one I got from ATF. I don't think they marked them.

That's exactly what I was thinking about my ATF set. Mine oughta go extra high since I "salted' it up with some light sandpaper and stuck an EGA on the front so's I could teach WWII Pacific Theater to my freshmen this year.

Looking for the following:

452nd and 447th Bomb Group items

Anything 12th Armored- especially uniforms

155th Assault Helicopter Company, Camp Coryell, or Ban Me Thuot Vietnam items[/center]

WWII US Navy Uniforms from the Battle Off Samar: USS Johnston DD-557, USS Hoel DD-553, USS Samuel B. Roberts DE-413, USS Heermann DD-532, USS Dennis DE-405, USS John C. Butler DE-339, USS Raymond DE-341, USS Fanshaw Bay St. Lo, White Plains, Kalinin Bay, Kitkun Bay and Gambier Bay...

Good or bad guys?

Thanks!

Looks reproduction to me , weird colors centerstitch looks suspicious ,

and the shape is off. The loud screaming green really throws up a red flag.

I have a secondpattern tha is really , really good, hard to tell, centerstich

is perfect and the way thetwo halvesare folded over is perfect.

the problem is when placed under black light tan side looks weird purple.

The thing even has moth tracks in it ???/ too good tobe true? lost some dough.

This Helmet Cover is a reproduction; as I remember, they were marketed by a small firm here in Southern California, along with M1942 'flage Utilities made of the same stuff.

Stands out like a sore thumb to me, but only because I used to see so many of them for sale ;)

Support our troops...abandoning the War on Terror is not an affordable luxury.

I'm so old, I still call W.W.II U.S. militaria "war surplus".

  • 3 weeks later...

that's a fairly easy fake to spot. The colors and shape are off.

A close up of the stitching I believe would be the icing on the cake...
