ClaptonIsGod Posted June 8, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 8, 2010 I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling. But that's just me.The camo seems too fresh and the stitching off, but I'm not a USMC cover expert so just my $.
Corpsmancollector Posted June 8, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 8, 2010 I'm going to say bad. Like Clapton, I don't get a great feeling about it. Possibly repro, but then the background color on the green side actually looks quite convincing... WWII USMC & USN - CAMOUFLAGE / CORPSMAN / PARAMARINE / MARINE RAIDER / DENIM / DECK JACKETS. VIETNAM - CAMOUFLAGE / SF / 'IN-COUNTRY' ITEMS.
usmcega Posted June 8, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted June 8, 2010 The guy selling it says it was an unissued mint item found many years ago and has been in his collection for 25 yrs. But anyone can make up a story. I don't care for the fact you cannot see a clear shot of the HBT weaving.
dhcoleterracina Posted June 9, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 9, 2010 I don't like it either, there's something about the coloring. I like to see a specific green color which I don't see here. Sorry.
Brig Posted June 9, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 9, 2010 pretty vibrant colors there...I get the same feeling. and think I saw that listing...such unissued stories are a dime a dozen
37thguy Posted June 9, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 9, 2010 Just sold for $130 Looking for for 37th Division VietNam and earlier Special Forces & USS Hemminger DE 746 items "Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rapidly promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." usmcski Posted June 9, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 9, 2010 I wouldn't lose much sleep over it, it screams "repro" to me. I have two mint helmet covers at home, (as well as a few repros), and the colors and edge stitching on this example look very much like the repops. For $130, maybe I should sell them off.... Sgt Saunders Posted June 9, 2010 Share #13 Posted June 9, 2010 It looks like a dead ringer of the one I got from ATF. I don't think they marked them. Checkmate King 2White Rook Out
Garandomatic Posted June 9, 2010 Share #14 Posted June 9, 2010 That's exactly what I was thinking about my ATF set. 'Flage Guy Posted June 10, 2010 Share #16 Posted June 10, 2010 This Helmet Cover is a reproduction; as I remember, they were marketed by a small firm here in Southern California, along with M1942 'flage Utilities made of the same stuff. Stands out like a sore thumb to me, but only because I used to see so many of them for sale Support our troops...abandoning the War on Terror is not an affordable luxury.I'm so old, I still call W.W.II U.S. militaria "war surplus". combat-helmets Posted June 30, 2010 Share #17 Posted June 30, 2010 that's a fairly easy fake to spot. The colors and shape are off. A close up of the stitching I believe would be the icing on the cake... Actively seeking WW2, Korean War and Vietnam War era USMC items
