mortaydc60 Posted July 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 20, 2007 btt Perhaps an over-simplication but term to me means post war manufacture;which for most means Germany, where most of the occupation forces were located ,and the soldiers with seeming great wealth compared to the refuges and civilian population could afford to have these insignia made and made well by hand and elaborately covered in gold bullion, etc. There was also so called cord construction, woven and other unusual patterns of embroidery. To be honest most of the time someone will say German made, but who really knows for certain. There were German embroidery firms that did make insignia as well as mom and pop tailor shops. It is a generalization for a period of manufacture and of various styles of manufacture.
KurtA Posted July 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 20, 2007 Patches made in Occupied Germany in the mid 40's and later have some very distinctive embroidery styles, materials and weaves. And these changed over time from the 40's to 50's to 60's and later. Over time, by looking at photos of patches that are posted, you'll begin to recognize the different styles.
