All the other military formations in the Romanian Independence Day parade were wearing some version of their dress uniforms.  The U.S. platoon was wearing field uniforms with battle rattle and war paint.  The parade was in Bucharest, 180 miles from the Ukrainian border.

101st treated this like a combat deployment (which it could become), I'm sure they didn't pack dress uniforms.

3d ACR consists of three squadrons of Stryker infantry and one reon squadron.  Presume he was infantry when he deployed with the Regiment to Iraq. The days of the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment being a tank-heavy unit are long gone.  It is effectively a motorized infantry brigade (with organic artillery and engineer support).

Correction -- typing too fast.  Should have read three squadrons (battalions) of Stryker-mounted infantry; plus one reconnaisance squadron with three Styker recon-surveillance-target acquistion (RTSA) troops / a surveillance troop with UAVs / 3 CW recon vehicles; along with a Field Artillery squadron (battalion); an engineer squadron (battalion); and a regimental support squadron (logistics / maintenance / medical).

104th Training Division DS'. The one on the left is curious, a Non Infantry 3rd ACR Vet with a CAB, yet he wears the Inf Blue Disc with his Cap Device.

104th trn.PNG

He has either since reclassified into a 11 series or when he was deployed he was not serving in a 11 series duty position.  I had two 11Bs that were deployed and assigned to a Graves Unit and scraped up body parts for 11 months and got CABs due to not being in a Infantry Company/battalion or Bde as a 11B.

1st battle group 187th airborne Infantry regiment , 24th infantry airborne being worn during operation grandios, Lebanon 1958. From the footage available it was very uncommon to see the pocket patch being worn.

IMO The white german made variant is being worn

Full color SSI worn on modern battle dress uniform.

On the left is Lieutenant General Jodi Daniels, Chief of Army Reserves and Commander of US Army Reserve Command, presenting a retirement certificate to Major General David Ling, who was the CG of the 79th Theater Sustainment Command.  LTG Daniels is wearing the full-color SSI of the Multi-National Security Assistance Transation Command as a wartime unit.

MG Ling is wearing the full-color SSI of the 79th Theater Sustainment Command (the "Cross of Lorraine" patch was formerly that worn by the 79th Infantry Division from 1917-1919 and again from 1942-1945; in 1946 becoming an Organized Reserve Division; in 1952 as an Army Reserve Division).  The 79th TSC was created in 2009.  As the Army Reserve's second-largest command, the 79th TSC executes command and control of the 4th, 311th, 364th, and 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Commands. These one-star commands account for approximately 20,000 Army Reserve Soldiers and Civilians assigned to 218 sustainment units dispersed across 19 states west of the Mississippi River.  The 79th TSC is headquartered in Los Alamitos, CA.

Both GIs are wearing it, the Indianhead Division patch, probably the Ardennes. Interesting that these two are wearing just the M41  Field Jacket right, like they have no other cold weather items

Just noticed this, I was showing someone this picture as I knew the 1SG. Note the CPT next to him is wearing the branch insignia of Special Forces not Infantry. Don’t know if the CPT completed the Q course, as he does not wear the SSI of the SF tab. The LT behind him is wearing the INF crossed rifles.

Interesting that no one is wearing the "man in the door" SSI of the 1-509th Inf (which was worn at Ft Chaffee) or the SSI of the JRTC.  Third image shows the 1-509 in "OPFOR" uniforms with the "man in the door" SSI, during a September 2014 ceremony activating two new companies at JRTC, which is now at Ft Polk.  Fourth image shows a 1-509 change of command ceremony in July 2015, with the officer wearing the JRTC SSI.

Nuremberg War Trials SSI worn by Lieutenant Jack Wheelis with Hermann Goring. Many speculate that it was Lt. Wheelis who smuggled the cyanide capsule to Goring that he used to commit suicide.

Here's a variation of the same patch with a colored border, presumably the same color as the letters, worn by Lt. Gen. Hugh A. Drum who, upon reaching mandatory retirement age in the U.S. Army in 1943, commanded the New York Guard from 1943 to 1948.

1st Bn. 131st Infantry facing off with protesters during the 1968 Chicago DNC. Uniforms show both the old 33rd Infantry Division patch now worn by the then-brand-new 33rd Infantry Brigade and the regiment's own pocket patches.
