seanmc1114 Posted March 30, 2022 Share #5601 Posted March 30, 2022 Some 11th Armored Cavalry SSI being worn in Vietnam, including a full color version worn by a trooper on his jungle fatigues. Most subdued versions of 11th ACR SSI you see worn in Vietnam appear to be theater made and a full color version is a rare sight. The fourth photo shows Col. George S. Patton, IV, regimental commander in 1968 and 1969.

seanmc1114 Posted March 30, 2022 Share #5604 Posted March 30, 2022 7th Infantry Division with gold on black AIRBORNE tab. It's hard to make out, but they appear to be wearing ovals and possibly flashes of the 107th Military Intelligence Battalion which would most likely make them members of the 107th Long Range Surveillance Detachment. Probably a member of the 7th Squadron 1st Cavalry. We take it 7th Cavalry Regiment was a typo, as that as you included to, as that is the 7th Squadron 1st Cavalry Blackhawks patch. Looks like a 4th Infantry Division Combat Patch no!

seanmc1114 Posted April 3, 2022 Share #5612 Posted April 3, 2022 The first two photos show Col. Thomas M. Hough relinquishing command of the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade to Col. Christopher S. Landers in a ceremony held on July 12, 2021 at 1st SFAB Headquarters. Fort Benning, Georgia. The third photo shows an NCO of the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade. The SSI is approved for wear by all Security Force Assistance Units and beret flashes and DUI's are worn to distinguish the various brigades. seanmc1114 Posted April 3, 2022 Share #5618 Posted April 3, 2022 54th Security Force Assistance Brigade. The 54th is the Army National Guard Security Forces Assistance Brigade and according to the Institute of Heraldry, the numerical designation represents the 54 states and territories the brigade protects. Its flash has five ticks on one side and four on the other.
easterneagle87 Posted April 3, 2022 Share #5619 Posted April 3, 2022 Interesting photos and great new information. These photos could also fall under the "berets" page as well. What actual color are they? Not brown and not burnt orange.

seanmc1114 Posted April 5, 2022 Share #5623 Posted April 5, 2022 This soldier of the 16th Ordnance Battalion in pinks and greens appears to be wearing the SSI of the 101st Sustainment Brigade with AIRBORNE in a photo posted on Facebook on September 22, 2021. This is odd for two reasons. First, I'm not aware that the 16th Ordnance Battalion has any affiliation with the 101st. It is currently subordinate to the 59th Ordnance Brigade and serves as an AIT unit at Fort Lee, VA. Second, the 101st Sustainment Brigade SSI was cancelled in 2015 when the unit was redesignated as the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade. Its members now wear the 101st Airborne Division SSI. The pinks and greens Army Service Uniform wasn't authorized in 2015. By way of comparison, also attached are photos showing the current commander of the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade wearing the 101st Airborne Division SSI and 101st Sustainment Brigade DUI's and oval behind his Air Assault Badge. seanmc1114 Posted April 5, 2022 Share #5624 Posted April 5, 2022 To follow up on the previous post, here are soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade wearing full color SSI in 2022. The first shows recent graduates of the Air Assault School at Fort Campbell, KY. The second shows a command sergeant major. Note that despite the previous post showing the 101st Sustainment Brigade has an authorized oval for its Air Assault Badge, it apparently does not have a similar beret flash. Instead, these soldiers are wearing the generic Department Of The Army flash. Note the NCO's are wearing the 101st Sustainment Brigade DUI.
