He was in the 187th RCT in Korea, his 187th RCT patch looks like its Japanese made, with a scroll attached to it, the ends of the scroll maybe saying 187th on the one end and RCT on the other, and AIRBORNE in the center. Well, who is to say he served the whole war with the 12th. Could well have come from a unit like the 2ndAD due to a lack of rotation points and stayed on with the 12thAD for occupation duty after the 2ndAD left for the states. Would have been a personal award if he served in the unit at the time of the award, and the 2ndAD received that French award. just speculating. The 140th had been federalized with the 35th Infantry Division in December 1940 and had served on active duty with the division until January 1943 when it was relieved of its assignment to the 35th and assigned directly to the Western Defense Command.
