Ernest Harmon served as Chief of Staff of Armored Forces before taking command of the 2nd Armored Division in July 1942. John Shirley Wood commanded a Combat Command of the 5th Armored Division from November 1941 until taking command of the 4th Armored Division in June 1942.

And that would then leave John Shirley Wood out, as he would of been Stateside still with the 4th Armd Div, but I don't think this was taken in Africa, because of the room their in, looks like a newly made Army building right, a HQ building,
patches Posted October 6, 2021 #5213 Posted October 6, 2021 II Field Force Vietnam Sighting, maybe U.S. Made maybe In Country Made, can't tell. Frederick C. Weyand now commander of the II Field Force Vietnam awards a DFC to a Captain Larry Liss, Chopper Pilot. Unknown in just what Aviation unit he was in, as II FFV didn't have as far as we know organic aviation units, perhaps he was in the II FFV Aviation Detachment assigned directly under HHC II FFV. Note Liss is an Commissioned Armor Officer and wears their BOS.

What exactly was the distinction between who wore combat stripes and noncombat stripes since the branches were classified into three categories - combat, combat support and combat service support? Signal Corps, along with Military Intelligence, Corps of Engineers and Chemical Corps, was a combat support branch. So which classification of rank insignia did it fall under?
