Another one of those odd patches worn by 44th Infantry Division MP's during World War II rather than the standard SSI.

Officer of the 3rd Infantry Division, most likely in North Africa or Sicily. His collar branch insignia appears to have the number "96" on it.

You know Sean looking at this a few times, long view and close up, makes believe it is a 30 there, that is an officers crossed rifles for the division's 30th Infantry.

Lt. Col. Robert Boxell, commander of the 83rd Ordnance Battalion in Korea in 1968. Note he is wearing the SUPPORT COMMAND tab over his Eighth Army SSI on his fatigues, but not his dress greens.

I believe this large soldier is wearing the SSI of the 1st Regiment of the Pennsylvania State Guard during or right after World War II.

A Big Red One GI Ardennes, that Big Red One patch looks kind of odd, kind of non standard, a field made one??? See how the 1 is not only off center, but real slender, and the shield is "Tall".

9th Service Command SSI worn at Camp Roberts during World War II. Check out the service stripes on the NCO's in the first picture and notice the NCO in the middle is wearing the Distinguished Service Cross, most likely from World War I.

The first picture shows Major General Terry Allen, commander of the 104th Infantry Division, wearing a white bordered SSI after the division's return from Europe in 1945. Also note his narrow leadership tabs. The second picture shows soldiers of the 104th wearing the standard issue SSI. Both were taken at Camp Roberts, California.

3rd Armored Division with a SPEARHEAD tab that is slightly wider than the SSI. The lettering makes it look theater made.

  • 3 weeks later...

BG James Stallings. Photo probably from the mid-1960's when he was a COL and Deputy Commander of the 258th Infantry Brigade.

The AZ National Guard kept the lineage of the 158th IN "Bushmasters".

In 1967 the 258th Infantry Brigade(separate) became the 258th MP Brigade and the SSI was changed I believe.

Wow Stallings started out as an EM in the old 158th Infantry before the war, he was transferred out though after the division it was in, the 45th was federalized, winds up serving in the 102nd Inf Div in the ETO,

Full color RANGER Tab with subdued Infantry School worn by the cadre of the Ranger Department, Fort Benning Geogia in the summer of 1982, we gather this fashion was started when these people start to wear the ERDLs in the 70s, then the RDFs along with the ERDLs by the late 70s early 80s, this guy seems to be wearing the new BDUs no? Not sure who long the fashion was.

An old timer Sfc of the 2nd Inf Div hands out brand new Indianhead Division patches to newbies fresh to the division, who  were visiting the 2nd Inf Div Museum during their in processing, Fort Benning Georgia 1959. (The Sfc is named Alexander Hunter, who I believe was the NCOIC of the museum, no info on him did we find so far)

Sorry it's not clearer, but I believe this is a first style Sixth Army SSI worn by a member of the 158th Regimental Combat Team post-World War II.
