Patches in action: Photos of SSI being worn by the troops.

Ben Harrell wearing the SSI of the Infantry School as a lieutenant general. To my knowledge, the commander of the Infantry School has always been a major general. General Harrell served as Commander of Fort Benning and Commandant of the Infantry School from August 1961 ro February 1963. His next assignment was at the Pentagon as Assistant Chief of Staff for Force Development. These photos may have been taken after his transfer and promotion but before he removed his Infantry School SSI.

"This is my grandfather Jeff Daemen. After his hometown of Maastricht was liberated, he didn't hesitate and joined the US 2nd Armored Division as a American Red Cross volunteer. He did more then this and traveled along with the 2nd Armored Division until the end of the war. The insignia's you see are his original ones that he is wearing in the pictures. The 4 stars on the bottom are General Clark's stars. I am very proud of my grandfather."

Check out this picture and story.

The officer giving the Hitler salute in the foreground was in charge of the POW exchange for the Germans. Andrew Gerow Hodges, the American Red Cross representative in the dark uniform in the center, set up the prisoner exchange in Brittany in November 1944. Pvt. Harry Glixon of Sarasota, Fla. was a member of the 301st Infantry Regiment, 94th Division of the 3rd Army who was exchanged by the enemy.

Here's another photo with some female Red Cross members and a female member of the First Army, probably a nurse, in the background. Based on their dress and inflatable life preservers they're wearing, they are probably in England waiting to go to France soon after D-Day or else just newly arrived in France.

The Alpha Rangers were not in Vietnam but a Ft Carson Colorado, remember they were still assigned to V Corps in West Germany even though they were stateside. No CMB we're seeing Hmm he should have it right. Too bad he doesn't wear DIs, as a Jump Qualified trooper in this unit, he was in one off the brigade's Infantry Battalion's Charlie Airborne's, in 1971-72 the 3rd Bn 5th Inf, 4th Bn 10th Inf, and the 4th Bn 20th Inf.

The info I put up in the last post was from another guy who served in A 75th Infantry. I was just posting it to reflect that he also said he served with the same company at Forts Benning and Hood.
