I would like to start a thread that will feature photographs of troops wearing SSI. I believe this would be a great reference for verifying patch wear and with some photos, possibly be able to show specific versions of the patches themselves. I invite other collectors to post photographs of troops wearing SSI. These can be portraits, photos in the field, etc..... Let's see them!

I always liked this photo. This is Patten talking to McAuliffe after the Battle of the Bulge. Now who is going to tell the General that he still has his old 1st Armored Corps patch on! I love it. I also like how wild the links look on the patch.

Here is a neat shot of a 2nd Infantry Division patch. Looks theater made.

Looks like a pre-war wool on wool or felt on felt patch to me. Note the size of the star and how the points reach the edge of the shield; especially true since it's on an M-1941 field jacket. I doubt that obtaining a "theater-made" SSI was that important at the time.

 

I've seen the photo in post #15. I believe the caption includes that the GI closest to the camera is a KIA.

this shows the EX NAVY SSI being worn as a combat patch and the 10th Div (no mountian tab) also the General is wearing a Glider badge
