Army officer wearing the Airborne Command SSI during World War II. Location is unknown, but based on the maps showing the Normandy region on the wall, he is presumably somewhere in Europe.

The patch presumably identifies Officer Candidate School students, but I don't believe I have ever seen this version.

user ocsfollowme has this patch as his avatar, I'm note sure what era it is from.

Thanks for adding this photo! I have not seen it before!!!

Asmic pubed an article page 16 of April-June 2016 on this.

This patch was on the cover of January-March 2017 and page 11.

So the long ovals are both from the time in England (1942). There are two variations, both on gabardine. One with a yellow border and the other without.

You can see photos here

An O of the 2nd Infantry Division wearing one of those unique early South Korean Made Subdued patch with just the outlines of Star and Indianhead, I think in late 1968, no doubt his Subdued RANGER Tab is in Country Made too. All that White Tape on him is a recognition thing, as he's a Umpire or something on a FTX.

I have never seen that 8th AF patch the captain is wearing.   Would love to find one of those.

The 9th Armored Division on Twins Lloyd and Floyd Malone, don't really look like twins don't they. No idea if they wound up staying together in the 9th Armd Div or where split up, you know, The Sullivans.

Here's Lloyd's OBIT, (Can't find Floyd's) as you see makes no mention whatsoever on units in the war.

45th Infantry Brigade SSI with AIRBORNE and GOVERNOR'S TWENTY tabs worn by a member of the 2nd Battalion (Airborne) 134th Infantry of the Nebraska National Guard.

Note the soldier is wearing the overseas cap with AIRBORNE patch rather than a maroon beret and flash with his new Army Service Uniform.

Also notice that he is an infantryman with an 82nd Airborne Division combat patch, DUI of the 508th Infantry as his regimental affiliation and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with bronze campaign star, but he does not have either a Combat Infantryman Badge or Combat Action Badge.

He also appears to have the mountain warfare badge in between pathfinder and air assault, also that is an extreme wear of the beret

Looks like he also has an officer's cap patch as an EM, given how the glider is facing backwards.

Ranger-1972

MG Floyd L. Parks, first Commander of US forces in Berlin, welcoming Secretary of War Stimpson for the Potsdam Conference. He had been Chief of Staff for 1st Allied Airborne Army, and is still wearing that SSI (since there was no SSI for the command in Berlin at that time). Second picture is of BG Parks as CoS for 1st Allied Airborne Army, wearing that SSI on his M1926 shawl-collar mofficer's short overcoat with belt.
