This is from the 2/502nd Infantry in Vietnam. The man on the left was CSM Walt Sabalauski and he was the oldest man serving on the front lines in Vietnam to be awarded the DSC when he was with C/2/502nd Infantry. He was awarded 3 x CIB's for WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. There are training areas at Ft Campbell and at Schofield named after him. I was lucky to meet him when he came to one of our reunions at Ft Campbell back in the 1980's. The man next to him I believe is LTC "Shamrock" Shay.

Thanks for sharing - it was really amazing to watch how all of the Vietnam vets looked up to CSM Sabalauski - there were several that were in that same battle when CPT Carpenter called the napalm strike on their position. I also got to meet COL Frank Dietrich during the same reunion - another triple CIB recipient who was an enlisted paratrooper in WWII and earned the DSC in Korea. All were very humble warriors.

1st Lieutenant David M. Monihan, West Point 1950 16th Infantry 1st Infantry Division Germany, interesting  point is he is already a Senior Parachutist. Says in hi Bio on the West Point site that he was an EM in WWII, born 12 January 1926, so perhaps he was a Paratrooper, arrived overseas after the War??? No CIB right, nor for Korea either it would seem, so perhaps he served in Germany the whole time, nothing out od the ordinary

A Sergeant of the 40th Infantry Division in Korea in 1953, must of been a Paratrooper back in the states before shipping out right as he's wearing a Khaki Garrison Cap with the Paraglider patch, but curiously he didn't wear his wings on his OG Wool Shirt.

I'm pretty sure it's the patch for the Army newspaper "Stars & Stripes". Here's a couple of examples that are similar from the CBI and Pacific editions of the paper.

Cadre of the Ranger Department at Fort Benning wearing subdued Infantry School SSI and AIRBORNE tab with full color RANGER tab on jungle fatigues. Check out how the outline of the SSI appears behind the crease in the sleeve in the second picture due to the heavy starch and ironing.

A Twelfth Army Group officer being presented the Legion Of Merit by General Patton. It's interesting that as an Army commander (Third or Fifteenth), Patton would be presenting awards to officers of a higher headquarters to which his own command was subordinate.
