The 761st Tank Battalion.s numbered Armored Triangle, a curious one as this seems to be a pre overseas portrait right, normally these numbered triangles are seen in post war 45-46.

An 8th Armored Division GI summer of 1944 curiously wearing that Ft Knox Armored Forced Replacement Training Center DI on his cap. BUT it could be that he's wearing it because for most of the war the 8th Armd Div was a Training Division for the Armored Forces at Cp Polk Louisiana and the wear of it was not exclusive to Ft Knox.

Yes, there are a few "3" numbered units. There is a forum member always looking for them. Very hard to find

A member of the 15th Infantry Regiment wearing what appears to be the Philippine Department SSI. The webpage where I found this photo indicates the soldier served with Company I 15th Infantry in Tientsin, China from 1936 to 1938. Wikipedia says the 1st Battalion was located in the Philippines but the remainder of the regiment served in China.

Interesting photo Sean, like why the French Rope? plus he's wearing another DI on his pocket flap, looks maybe like the 12th Infantry.

It's worth saving the full image of this nicely embroidered framed photo, also to see the Third Reich, Italian and Japanese Flags in the motif, who at that time, all members of the International Community in Tientsin 😀

The Institute of Heraldry identifies this SSI as Victory Task Force. The yearbook in the attached link identifies the unit as the United States Army War Show Provisional Task Force. At any rate, this has to be a truly rare SSI. I guess the unit was a travelling road show that put on public demonstrations of the Army's capabilities for morale and war bond raising purposes.

Actually it's a very common patch. Not very rare. They go for around 20-25.

I didn't mean that the patch itself is rare or particularly valuable. I was referring to the rarity of period photos showing it being worn.

Capt. Robert Kirkpatrick of the 79th Infantry Division tells Maj. Gen. J. Lawton Collins, Commander of VII Corps, the part his unit played in the capture of the fort overlooking the city and harbor of Cherbourg, France. It looks like the captain's jacket may have the ghost of removed SSI under his 79th patch.
